With a new baby due at Style Central any day now, I thought it might be fun (and helpful - for me!) to make a list of what has made my “must have” list for bub. This being our second child (daughter Allegra is 22 months old) I now know what does and doesn't work (and have a garage full of baby products I never used but got talked into buying to prove it). I think you get more practical with each baby - hopefully while maintaining a sense of style!
I've packed the baby bag and hospital bag, the nursery is ready, the teenee tiny clothes are washed and folded and my freezer is full of pasta sauces etc that I have cooked in anticipation of never wanting to cook again. I’ve also stockpiled nappies, tissues and tinned goods… it's like I'm preparing to bunker down for 6 months and never leave the house (a very odd nesting side effect I also got when I had Allegra)!
So here's what has been making its way home from Baby's Got Style HQ… and some other picks from elsewhere that I love!
Will of course keep you posted when bub makes an entrance into the world.

I can’t get through pregnancy without…

Nearly Nude bedtime bra, $64.95. (I wear mine day, night, all the time - never take it off. Well to be fair I have several I cycle - I don’t literally wear the same one all the time!)

Belli elasticity belly oil, $78. I’ve been lathering myself in this for months now - very luxe feeling and with a nice light scent.

Bonds black basics maternity clothing. The leggings with support band ($39.95) in particular got a really good work out. Need all the support I can get!
100,000 baby names by Bruce Lansky. I think I read them all. Some made me laugh, others cry, others made the list only to be crossed off by hubby.
Avene skin recovery cream. So calming, so gentle, so saved me from sobbing in a dermatologists office over my early days of pregnancy red and cranky skin!
Arnott's chocolate scotch finger biscuits. Apparently these have been around for a while. I wish someone had told me! Oh well, the Arnotts company have well and truly benefited from my pregnancy. Allegra’s nap time + cup of tea + chocolate scotch finger biscuit = bliss.
Every week my Grazia subscription takes me to a world where glamour reigns supreme. It's fun, fashion focused and doesn't take itself too seriously. Most importantly it's long enough to savour but short enough that I can actually read it (well I have a week to get through it anyway).
Moleskin daily diary. If it's not in here, it doesn’t get done. Between work, OB-GYN appts, Gymabaroo, mothers group, grocery shopping lists and endless trips to Medicare - it also doubles as a drawing pad for Allegra when she needs occupying in a café and every time I hear a potential baby name it goes in the list down the back! I’m all about lists at the moment…
For Baby
Oh sweet second child. Yes you are getting some well washed hand me downs (Purity sensitive wash - thank you!)
But never fear - I have made sure you will also get some brand new things of your very own.

Bonds lil bonds romper - white pointelle cotton, $29.95 and Pure Baby zip growsuit - grey star, $29.95. They may not be the most fashion forward, daring choices, but I know you’ll live in them those early days. So sweet, soft and baby appropriate. There’ll be time for funky later.

Marquise l/s spencer tee, $10.95 and Bonds basic white l/s top, $9.95. Your big sister lives in these. 100% cotton they’re perfect for layering under summer dresses on a cooler day, they wash like a dream and are the perfect basic to work back with more fun fashion pieces like ruffle bloomers. Can’t have too many as far as I’m concerned! Note to mums: the bonds one is slightly lighter in weight.

Minimonkey sling, $79.95. Looking forward to trying out my minimonkey sling with you inside it all snug and secure (and then adjusting its length so your daddy can have a hold - after all I’ve been holding you for 9 months!).
Wraps galore! Li’l Fraser, Aden & Anais, Pure Baby and Oobi… they’re all coming home with us. I know from experience a few is never enough.
Li’l Fraser, $26.95
Aden and Anais $36.95 (set of two)
Oobi, $29.95
Pure Baby, $16.95And for Allegra: a stroller and baby doll of her very own. We’re going to be quite a sight walking down the street together aren’t we (and why do I already get the feeling I’ll end up having to push both strollers?)

And a special day out with a trip to the zoo - a final little outing just the three of us. After a little momentary shock at seeing Giraffes in the flesh (you mean they don’t just live in my story books?) she had a ball. Seeing the newly born baby elephant gave me some perspective on what I am about to do. Massive respect to Taronga’s mama elephant Thong Dee at birthing baby Luk Chai. He was 96 kilos at birth with a 22 month gestation. All I can say is - yikes!

What's the story behind Cheeky Little Soles (i.e. history)?
My daughter was the inspiration behind Cheeky Little Soles. When Lily was 6 months old she kept taking off her socks which frustrated me, especially on colder days. In her early attempts to stand (she seems to have decided to do everything early), she was always slipping on our floorboards at home. I searched high and low only to find a gap in the market. Not one to sit back and stay frustrated, I set about designing my own range of soft soled leather footwear.
What makes Cheeky Little Soles different?
Our quality, our black (to hide the dirt) padded soles, the fact that they are Australian designed as well as the fact that we continuously come up with fun and funky new styles & colours.
Any hints for us as to what we can expect from Cheeky Little Soles in upcoming seasons?
We have some gorgeous polar boot colours coming for Winter, also some very cute Mary Janes. There a few new projects in the works too, but you will have to stay tuned for details on those.
What's been your most exciting/fulfilling/wonderful moment since launching Cheeky Little Soles?
I love the exhilaration of seeing babies wearing our shoes or picking up a magazine at the Doctor’s office and seeing our shoes in amongst the other amazing products. Producing the designs for each pair of Cheeky Little Soles is something that gives me the most wonderful sense of achievement and seeing bubs enjoying the finished product is even better.
Are Cheeky Little Soles available elsewhere in the world?
Yes we have stockists in Singapore, New Zealand and Spain. And we are working on selling to other countries too!
Do you have a favourite Cheeky Little Soles design?
I think Scooter is my favourite. Every time my son Finn helps pack shoes (well as much as a 2yo can help) he always says ‘mine’. So I think it’s his favourite too!
How would you describe your own personal style?
I love simple classic pieces and also love my jeans. I have lots of cream and also black in my wardrobe, I am also a fan of anything with a frill! Really if it’s functional and stylish then I love it.
What can't you live without?
Take away coffee and my cheeky supportive husband.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a dancer, so I guess it was inevitable that I would end up creating a beautiful line of soft soled baby ballet slippers.
What movie have you recently seen and loved, what book have you recently read and enjoyed and what food can you not get enough of right now?
We have just discovered a Persian restaurant near our house. The aroma is almost as good as the taste! As for movies & books – generally time is limited and the only movies I get time for are ones that are produced by Disney.

You know how your kids seem to grow up in the blink of an eye? One day you're in the maternity ward learning how to swaddle and the next you're sending them off with a lunchbox to kindy?
Well that's how we’re feeling - because Baby's Got Style turns 5 this month!
It seems like just yesterday I was doodling logos and mapping out the look of the very first website design (check out a trip down memory lane for those of you who have been shopping with us that long, below).
Five years down the track (and 3 different website designs) and we've got over 2000 products, over 100 brands and a team of fabulous Baby's Got Style Style Childs helping to run the show.
But the best growth is you - from our very first customer to now, you’ve taken the ride with us. We certainly wouldn’t be where we are now without you our always on-trend customers!
So how to say thanks? Well ideally I’d love to send you all a birthday cupcake - but the logistics of that is a bit tricky (and with baby number 2 due this month baking all those cupcakes seemed a bit nesting crazy). So instead we’re giving you a chance to
WIN a $1000 Baby’s Got Style summer spending spree!
How to win? Easy, if you’re a subscriber to our newsletter you just need to send our birthday newsletter (dated 7/10/09) to a friend.
We’d like you to share the birthday love around (in lieu of fairy bread) and the more people you tell, the more entries you get (every send to a friend is an entry to win). For those who aren't subscribed, simply by subscribing (on our home page) you will be entered into the draw.
The lucky winner will be randomly selected and announced in our November 2 newsletter.
Good luck!
Again my sincere thanks for making Baby's Got Style a favourite place to shop for the stylish little people in your life. I'm still pinching myself that we’re here 5 years down the track- and I hope the service and product range we endeavor to deliver to you every day makes you feel as special as my first customer hopefully did (back in October 2004). Little did she know - I squealed for a full five minutes after she placed that first order.
And I’m still squealing now!
